Vitória da Conquista (Colony)

Vitória da Conquista was a colony in Bahia in Pernambuco, Brazil. When the Bahia West Islands Company gave the idea of conquisring Pernambuco to the Governement of Bahia, a ship from Salvador went to Recife in 1630, the future governor of Pernambuco Count de Nassau. When the explorers from Bahia arrived in Recife they started a long work to urbanize the recife. Turning that city in the second colony of Bahia, Vitória da Conquista, in this period lots of people from Sergipe and Bahia went to the colony, especially artists, workers, sellers, and politicians, seeking freedom of religion and artistic expression.

In 1636, the State of Pernambuco declared the independence of Bahia and Islands, ending the Colony of Vitória da Conquista, which was incorporated into the city of Recife.
